Benjamin a Portbou , ottimamente curato da Carlo Saletti per Ombre Corte, si ricostruiscono con grande precisione gli ultimi giorni di vita di uno dei più importanti e originali pensatori del XX secolo. In fuga dai nazisti che avevano invaso la Francia, approda con altri esuli in un paesino spagnolo di frontiera con la speranza di poter emigrare negli Stati Uniti. Ma lì il grande  déraciné berlinese, travolto dalle sue angosce e dal suo precario stato di salute, finisce per lasciarsi morire a soli 48 anni. Come principale esperto del Pci sulle questioni economico-finanziarie contribuì ad elaborare la proposta delle  riforme di struttura che postulava l alleanza tra operai e ceti medi produttivi, per un cambiamento profondo del modello capitalistico.
